Write about that one movie, book, or incident that drastically changed your life

Our life is intriguingly full of suspense. We have no idea about what is going to happen next in our life and that makes life interesting. The best way to deal with this uncertainty is to embrace it and the problems we face or life-changing events that we come across help us carve new paths towards our goals and keep going.

Many times, these life-changing or self-introspecting situations help a long way in looking Into the bigger picture and deciding what is best for us. When we are broken and shattered, it shows us that we need to look into the situation differently, and tackling it leads us to a whole new world that was beyond our imagination and expectation.

It can be anything that can drastically change your life in a moment. I have confined the options to a movie, book, or incident, so go ahead and think about that particular option that comes to your mind instantly.

That one book that changed my life drastically was “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. Most of us will know about the book and know the kind of impact it has on our minds. It will resonate with many and it may not resonate with others. That is perfectly alright.

Follow your heart

We all seek the truth, inspiration to guide us, and that one moment, when we find it, we are overwhelmed and that is what happened to me when I read it. I was continuously looking for some answers and when I completed the book, I moved ahead and could see the answers. It was all in front of me. It persuaded me to make big changes in life and take control to put myself on the path that takes me to my destination. My mind could reveal which my eyes denied till now. I could see the path and I followed my heart towards it.

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

As we end today’s challenge with a dose of inspiration, let us move ahead to another topic of the day.

Why write a book review?

A book review is analytical feedback of the book. You state your opinion and your takes on a book that would be helpful for the readers. A book review is done so that people who have not read it yet and are willing to buy and read will get an overview of the content and make an informed decision to give their valuable time to that book.

Book Review

Many readers do not get much time to read and find it a good way to check the reviews beforehand and then decide. It helps them immensely as they might decide to read another book and make their day productive.

How to write a Book Review?

  1. What is the Book all About

Start the book review by writing about the main purpose of the book in a paragraph. What does it want to pass on to the readers? Write a summary of the entire story without revealing the twists and suspense.

Critically analyze it

Beware! If you reveal the secrets that hold the purpose of writing the book, you will lose your audience. You do not want to annoy your readers for sure. So keep the climax to yourself and leave an intriguing question at the end asking the readers to dig in more by reading the book by themselves.

  1. What is the genre, tone of the writing, and who are the target readers

There are varied kinds of readers in the world and everyone wants to read books that resonate with their interests. You must mention the following:

  • The book belongs to which genre?
  • Is it spiritual, suspense or humorous, preachy or emotional?
  • Who will like it? Define the readers who should read it.
  • Why do you think the writer wrote it? What does he want to convey and what is the overall tone of the writing?
  1. What are your views and takeaways?

The most important part of the book review lies in the opinion. What is your take on the book? Below are the points to include in the book review:

Your views
  • What did you like in the book? You need to specifically mention what you liked about the book. Is it any particular character or the overall plot that kept you holding on to that book?
  • What you did not like in the book? This also needs to be precise and clear to the readers so that they can also try to relate and see if the negative points resonate with their own opinions or they can still go ahead and read it.
  • What is the key takeaway that readers can expect from the book? You need to analyze the final key takeaways of the book and put forward the reasons to read or not to read the book. It will help the readers to decide if they want to read it.
  • Use one or more quotes from the book to prove your point or take the help of some of the scenes without revealing the suspense of the story.
  • Emotions involved – How did the book make you feel at the end and how was the journey of reading it throughout. Emotions can differ from reader to reader but they can help connect to a range of similar readers.
  1. Your recommendation

Finally based on the entire analysis, you need to decide whether you want to recommend the book to the readers or not. It should be genuine and honest so that you can gain your audience’s trust and help them in deciding which book to read and which ones to avoid.

Recommendation

You are making people’s lives easier and saving their time too. Read the book critically and give your final recommendation. You may be a fan of a writer and more inclined towards their novels, but that should not affect the truth that you want to show in your review.

  1. Review closure

You can close the review by giving them stars (4 out 5) or points (7 out of 10). This will also help readers quickly decide as they can look into the points and be sure about the book.

For writing a perfect book review, focus on the core ideas of the book, the key takeaways, and your final recommendation of the book.
