Another topic of the day – Good Habits of a Successful Writer
Where do you wish to travel next?
Travel has become a distant dream for all in this covid-19 situation where it is better to stay indoors and keep yourself and others safe from the spread of the pandemic. But once everything is fine like before and we can roam around freely, we are surely fulfilling our travel dreams.
I want to travel to the mountains when I travel next. It can be as rugged as the Manali-Leh highway or Atal tunnel. I want to be in the snow and chilly weather. I have seldom witnessed snowfall and it is my wish to travel to a place next time where I get to enjoy snowfall.
When you plan your travel, make sure you check the rules beforehand and take all precautions.
What calls you again? Mountains or beaches or the lush green grass from your granny’s backyard. Travel is so much more than just relaxing. When you travel and truly notice the bliss around you and the lessons you get, you are no longer the same person who started that journey in the first place.
It makes you believe in the truth of time and makes us realize how time is limited and we have so much to explore outside and inside of ourselves. Traveling is a path to uncover a new part of yourself and be okay with it. You sometimes feel happy and sometimes surprised. You get to learn so much about yourself.
Think deeply and go to that place where you have always wished to travel next.
Have a great day! Thank you for reading. As we complete today’s challenge, let us check another topic of the day.
Good Habits of a Successful Writer
A writer’s life is not as smooth as it seems sometimes. Every day a writer puts down the thoughts and imagination to be read by people but does everyone gets appreciated is a big question. Becoming a successful writer is not just about how you write, it’s also many other aspects that directly and indirectly affect your career.
There is a lot of hard work and learning that goes on in the background. You need to be relevant and well-researched when you write a book or a short story or any other work. But some habits help a writer to shine and grow in their field. Even though you might be great at your words, if you are surrounded by habits that do not help you grow, you might never be successful.
By success, it can be the inner satisfaction you receive when readers appreciate your work or the fame that comes along the way. More than the materialistic, it is the way of life that you adopt with the following habits and the quality of life that matters the most.
Below are the habits that will help you become successful as a writer:
- Follow a strict schedule
Every writer should take out some time every weekend and plan the schedule for the coming week. This way they do not waste time thinking about what they are going to do in the upcoming week and can focus on the content instead.
While preparing a schedule, keep it strict and commit yourself to it. You cannot miss the tasks you have scheduled related to work unless there is an emergency. Once you start following your schedule and completing daily goals, you will feel confident to write and edit more.
When you procrastinate your work, it takes time to get back to the same rhythm that you had when you started following the schedule. So strictly follow a schedule and get work done. There is no room for excuses if you want to achieve something great in your life. Either you follow a schedule or do not follow and the choice you make creates the life you have today. Our life is all about the choices we make so choose wisely.
- Write Daily
Writing daily is a habit that is worth being consistent with every day of your life. Once you take it seriously and write daily whether you want to write or not, things start to grow in life and you become a better writer. Once there is no room for procrastination, productivity shines and you glow with it.
Preparing a schedule is fine, but being able to follow it is a big question. We have many things going on in our life, like birthdays, emergencies like sickness, marriages, and other personal engagements. Our personal engagements should not affect our professional life. Keep a room for such events in your schedule too.
What I do is prepare a schedule from Monday to Saturday and Sunday is a buffer. In case I missed a task someday, that goes on that buffer day.
- Keep yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally fit
Fitness is a key to an evergreen life full of productivity in all phases and facets of our life. Once you strive to be fit, you take care of your body, mind, and heart and in return, you have the strength, focus, and zeal to become successful in life.
Exercise daily in the morning or evening as looks good for you. What is important is that you exercise daily and do not miss. Once you exercise and sweat it out, you feel energized and ready to take on the tasks that lie ahead with an energetic approach.
Meditation and gratitude journaling are the most effective ways to take care of your mental fitness. Once you calm your mind and express your gratitude for all that is there in your life, you work with a positive outlook and can handle the pressures that the writing field poses in a better way.
To remain emotionally fit, you need to forgive others, take a stand for yourself, be empathetic towards others and say “NO” to things that do not serve any purpose in your life. You cannot keep everyone happy so do not try to do it. You cannot always be happy and that is okay. What is important is that you can keep a balance in your emotions.
- Be Curious
Curiosity is a gift in disguise. A curious soul explores way more than other people who are not intrigued. People who have good questions in life, go a long way in becoming better people and better writers. A writer needs to observe the surroundings and people and if the writers are not curious, then they do not go for quests and their journey as a writer may not flourish.
Push yourself beyond your limits and explore all that you can and hope for in your field and surroundings. A simple insight may strike a story that is better than many others and it can be the one that helps you grow as a writer and become a distinguished writer. You need to find the factor that makes you a unique writer.
- Constructive Criticism and Communication
A writer becomes famous and people read and give their opinions. Not everyone will like your perspective and they will criticize you and question your work. At that moment, you need to sit and calmly check the comments that your readers leave for you and segregate the ones which are genuine from the ones which are simply hateful.
You need to be considerate when you check the criticisms and not be stubborn. Maybe some of the criticisms help you become better as a writer.
Once you have handled the criticism, you need to be able to properly communicate why should readers read what you want to write. If there is good communication and you give replies which are legible and sensible for the readers, you shine as a writer.
I hope the post on the habits to become a successful writer was helpful to you in some ways to generate curiosity to change your habits for the better.
